The history of Restaurant Carlslund
 |
On this spot near Humlepletten in the old beechwood of Fruens Bøge, all kinds of festive activities have been held since 1860. Carlslund was built by Andersen, who worked at ‘Kristiansdal’, now ‘Dalum Abbey’, and all the half-timbering has been taken from there. The area that belonged to Carlslund, between the railway line and Ravnsgyde (the former name of Dalumvej) was used around 1890 by Fyens Cycleunion as a cycle-racing track. Here the brothers Peter and Thorvald Ellegaard, both of whom lived in Skovalleen, celebrated their first triumphs. Around 1910, Jernebanealle was established through the area. |
The history of Carlslund ‘æggekage’...
Throughout the almost 150 years of its history, Restaurant Carlslund has always served its popular ‘æggekage’.
But when, about 25 years ago, Herold Nielsen – a keeper at Odense Zoo – supplied Restaurant Carlslund with a huge ostrich egg, the ‘æggekage’ really took off. And it has been tremendously popular ever since. |
